Master Swimming
|
Don't let the title scare you - unless you are an Olympic athlete - none of us are truly a Master. We can always get faster, more efficient and more effective.
Who is this for? Adults who are interested in improving their swimming skills, improving speed, and becoming a more efficient swimmer.
Are you a runner or biker interested in training for a triathlon, but are uncertain about the swimming leg? Are you a lap swimmer growing bored of the same old routine? Are you typically a "Dry Exerciser" looking for a great way to jolt your muscle memory?
This is the group for you.
Structured workouts are available on the pool deck for the beginner swimmer as well as the advanced swimmer.

Mickey started out her swimming career right here in South Sioux City, and went on to swim competitively at UNO. Mickey's coaching tenure is equally impressive: Skutt Catholic High School Head Coach (Omaha); Sioux City Metro Swim Team; UNO Master's Swim Club.
Mickey currently teaches English at West High School and is one of our most popular Water Aerobics Instructors. She and her husband Dan, who is also a fitness instructor with the Y, are parents to two boys.
Mickey will be on deck to provide workouts, coach stroke refinement, and offer any additional assistance Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 7:30 and Saturday mornings from 8:00 - 9:00 A.M.

Dawn Patrol Water Aerobics with Marj Kamrath Mon / Wed / Fri 6-7 AM in the Lap Pool.
Get your day off to a great start with this mid to high intensity class. Included are a mix of cardio, strength building and deep water work. Floatation belts available no swimming skills required.
ABC Aquatic Body Conditioning with Melissa Gilbertson. Mon Friday 8-9 AM in the Lap Pool.
By far, our most popular class! We utilize both the shallow and deep end of the pool, improving cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and flexibility. This low to mid intensity class requires no swimming skills.
H2O Combo 9:15 10:15 AM in the Lap Pool Gina Towner & Angela Eyer
This water workout combines a variety of aquatic fitness styles: shallow and deep water, strength training, circuit and interval training.
Stretch and Flex with Melissa Gilbertson Mon / Wed / Fri 10-11 AM in the Family Pool.
Shallow water group exercise focuses on flexibility and stretching through low intensity movement in the water. Great for beginners and mature adults.
Deep H2O with Sandy Backhaus Tues / Thurs 4:30 5:15 in the Lap Pool.
The stresses imposed by bearing our own body weight on land are significant. For example: the impact force generated while running is about 3 to 5 times our body weight. Weve removed this factor with a non weight bearing deep water workout! No swimming skills are required floatation belts are always available.
Aqua Charged with Glenda Hoesing Monday 5:45 6:45 PM in the Lap Pool.
Shallow water mid to high intensity cardio workout.
Aqua Kick Tues / Thurs 5:45 6:15 in the Lap Pool Mickey & Glenda.
This is a high intensity aerobic workout using the principals of land routines in the water! Cardio kickboxing and step aerobics to an upbeat tempo. This is a great partner class for traditional dry aerobics class participants keep your workouts fun and your muscles moving!
